What is Sports Massage Therapy?

Sports massage therapy is concerned with the management, manipulation, and rehabilitation of soft tissue. It is aimed at helping people recover from sporting activity and enhancing performance. Despite sounding like the preserve of elite athletes, sports massage therapy can also be used to relieve all sorts of conditions, not just sport-related problems.

Anyone can benefit, including people in physically demanding jobs and those people who suffer from stress whether that be physical or emotional in nature. It works particularly well in combination with chiropractic treatment and a lot of our patients have massages in between their regular chiropractic treatments to keep their body supple and mobile.

Initial Consultation with our Sports Therapist

Our Sports Therapist also offers an Initial Consultation and Treatment appointment which lasts 1 hour. This appointment will be no different from the usual physical therapy consultation. You will be asked specific questions related to your issue, and to demonstrate some movements. Your diagnosis and treatment plan will be discussed from there. We will cater your rehabilitation to the specific needs your sport/activity demands to ensure the injury does not reoccur.

Treatment is likely to involve the use of soft tissue therapy and mobilisation techniques within the treatment room, combined with a more specific exercise-based program for continuation within your own time. The aim is to return you to full physical activity in the best possible time frame.
