Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a non invasive therapy that looks at how structural misalignments may affect the general health and wellbeing of your body, focusing on resolving the problem, not masking it.

Chiropractic care treatment is gentle and tailored to your needs and requirements. We can advise you on lifestyle, diet and exercise to help you achieve your best.

At So Healthy you can feel assured that you’re always in safe hands. Our friendly team is committed to providing the best patient centred care to get you back to health. We strongly believe that you benefit the most from one to one chiropractic care rather than an ‘open treatment room’ approach.

All examinations and treatments are carried out by our highly experienced and fully qualified Chiropractors who are registered with the General Chiropractic Council.

Chiropractic literally means by hand in Greek. Chiropractors use a range of techniques to adjust various joints in the body. We believe that the body is self healing and self regulating and that because functions in the body are controlled by the nervous system, any interference with that system can cause symptoms.

Many people come to us because they get relief from pain and stiffness as symptoms. We believe that symptoms are just a way of your body telling you there is a problem and so we try to find the cause of the problem by using orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic tests. We call this conservative care because it is gentle, non-invasive unlike surgery and does not mask the symptoms as painkillers do.

The nervous system controls every function in the body, every cell has communication from the brain through this wiring system. If there is any interference with this system then things will not work as well as they should. Chiropractic can determine where any interference may be and remove it thereby enabling the body to function as well as it can.

Techniques
Chiropractors learn a variety of techniques and attend seminars throughout their career to be able to use the best and most appropriate interventions necessary to help people. At So Healthy we use a variety of techniques including:

Diversified: Various manual techniques designed to adjust and restore natural movement in joints, ligaments and muscles.

Activator: Activator methods is a specific protocol used to detect spinal joint dysfunction, analyse leg length inequality, identify issues with body mechanics, and test neurological reflexes. The device itself delivers a gentle, controlled, fast and specific thrust which is comfortable for both babies, small children, adults and the elderly. Priscilla So is an advanced proficiency rated practitioner in this.

Neural Organisational Technique (NOT): This is a kinesiology based technique, taking elements from chinese medicine to help determine issues and help the body function better.

Training
All chiropractors have to go through stringent training, in the UK this involves a four year full time degree at one of three colleges. The courses include, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, radiology, radiography, general diagnosis, neurology as well as learning specific chiropractic tests and adjustments.

Chiropractors in the UK have to be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) which was set up by parliamentary act to regulate and develop the profession. It is against the law to call yourself a chiropractor if you have not undertaken the relevant training and are not registered with the GCC. Chiropractors have to register every year and provide evidence of continual professional development (CPD).
